Parent-Teacher
Association (PTA)
The Glencoe PTA
strives to strengthen the family-school-community partnership
by providing opportunities to be involved in the education,
health, and well being of children in our
community. Studies show that parent and public involvement
are essential to the successful education of our
children.
A first step in this
involvement is joining the PTA - it's a great place to share
ideas, enthusiasm and expertise. Please attend our monthly
PTA meetings. General Glencoe PTA meetings for the 2009
– 2010 school year are scheduled for the first Monday of
each month and alternate between evening (6:30 PM) and

PTA
Membership
The Glencoe PTA
individual membership fee is $10.00. By joining the
Glencoe PTA you will automatically also become a member of
the Oregon PTA and National PTA. By adding our
individual voices to those of parents of school children
across Oregon and the nation, we increase the impact the PTA
has when we lobby legislators and government decision-makers
to provide our kids with the best and well-rounded
educational experience possible.
Even if you
can’t attend PTA meetings or volunteer a lot of time,
your membership speaks volumes about your support for
providing the best possible education for your child and all
his or her peers. We hope all Glencoe moms, dads,
grandparents and other family members and friends will
consider becoming Glencoe PTA members! For more
information, please contact Trish Hamann, Vice
President/Membership & Hospitality at 503.502.9755
or trish_hamann@yahoo.com.
Volunteer
Opportunities
Volunteering is
another great way to ensure the success of our
students. Parents tutor students, run reading and math
groups, help in the classrooms, assist on field trips, teach
Art Infusion and help with art residencies, the kiln room and
after school activities. Parents help plan and implement
a variety of extra-curricular events and programs, including
the popular Harvest Festival, Science Fair, PTA Bookfair and
the Storybook Parade.
If you are
interested in volunteering, whether at school or working from
your home, there are plenty of opportunities. To view a
complete listing of Glencoe ES volunteer opportunities,

– 2010 Interest Finder and contact one of our 2009

PTA
Fundraisers
Parents also
contribute to the school community through fundraisers like
the Gift Wrap Sale and Scrip Sales. The proceeds of these
fundraisers support all aspects of the educational program at
Glencoe. In the past few years, the PTA has purchased
classroom literacy materials, Art Infusion support materials,
sponsored the Glencoe Auction and provided small grant
opportunities for creative school based
projects. Glencoe School is fortunate to have a strong,
active parent community with a high level of participation in
the school. We hope you will join us!
Ongoing Fundraising
Opportunities
SCRIP
The Scrip program is a major Glencoe PTA
fundraiser. Last year we raised about $7,000 for the PTA
general fund. This money goes directly into the
classrooms to purchase needed curriculum materials for all
grades.
What is scrip and
how does it work? First, it is the only fundraiser that
costs families nothing. Without a doubt, the success of the
SCRIP and eScrip programs is due to the fact that it's so
easy to participate - nothing to sell, no pledges to collect,
no committee meetings to attend. You simply purchase gift
cards to all the places you usually shop. The merchants
donate a percentage back directly to the school. Try Scrip for your shopping needs.
Friends, family, and neighbors can participate too. If 400
families spend $100 per week on groceries, and they buy it
with scrip, Glencoe would profit over $55,000 in one school
year!
Download a SCRIP
order form or find one across the hall from the Glencoe
school office. Please turn your scrip special order
forms in at the Scrip table set up on Monday mornings and
afternoons. Special orders should be ready to pick up
during the Friday Scrip table times.
Scrip sales take
place in the main entryway throughout the year on Mondays and
Fridays from 7:45 – 8:30 AM and from 2:00 – 2:30
PM.
You can also raise
money for Glencoe through the eScrip
program. eScrip has proven to be a
fantastic resource for fundraising where participating
business partners contribute a percentage of your grocery
loyalty cards, credit card, and debit/ATM card purchases to
the school, group or organization of your choice. Visit our
family of merchants for a complete list of participants in
the program.
